Gettysburg Hospital building project designed to accommodate growing needs Additional floors and renovations are part of five-year plan
Gettysburg Hospital's five-year facility project features a number of improvements. They include a new Emergency Department with separate entry points for visitors and clinicians as well as a Maternity Center based on a care model that is driven by the patient's needs. Hospital staff members recently participated in a kickoff meeting which provided an overview of the project that is scheduled to begin in September. It is expected to conclude in 2012. The project will cost an estimated $50 million to complete. The hospital is working with Wilmot Sanz on the planning of the project. "We seem to have done a major facility project every 15 years or so and that time frame is about right with our timing and plans for this project," said Craig Long, vice president, Gettysburg Hospital. The hospital project, along with a greater focus on ambulatory care, will allow the health system to better meet the needs for the anticipated growth in Adams County and northern Maryland. The vision is to create an environment that promotes patient-centered care, patient safety, efficiency, and employee satisfaction while meeting the needs of our community now and into the future. "We've spent considerable time discussing and determining the goals of the project," Long said. "It's important that we keep those goals at the forefront of our minds as the project takes shape." Correlated to the project's goals are issues with the current hospital facility. They include a rapidly aging plant where many services and functions do not meet present clinical design standards, a prevalence of semi-private patient areas with little or no privacy, and patient areas where increased technology needs make it difficult to provide safe, efficient and timely care |
